Forensicare has been Victoria's provider of adult forensic mental health services for over 20 years.
The service bridges the gap between mental health and the criminal justice system.
They have seen growth due to justice reforms, population growth, and strain on mental health services.
The organization has contributed to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
The focus is on evaluating services and understanding the relationship between mental illness and offending.

The Victorian mental health system has seen significant changes over the past three decades.
Forensicare, established in 1997, is the primary statewide specialist provider of adult forensic mental health services in Victoria.
 

Vision, Purpose, and Guiding Principles (Page 5)

Vision: "Meaningful lives led safely."
Purpose: Empower recovery for Victorians with mental illness in or at risk of entering the justice system.
They are guided by principles such as hope, connected care, curiosity, strong ethics, compassion, and fairness.
 

Success Indicators and Responsibilities (Page 6)

Success is indicated when consumers have pathways to holistic recovery, strong collaborations are formed, and they lead innovation at the intersection of mental illness and offending behavior.
Responsibilities include supporting personal and community safety, assisting in rebuilding lives free from offending behaviors, and reducing stigma.
 

Forensicare Services (Page 6-7)

Forensicare offers services based on a recovery-oriented mental health framework.
Services include Thomas Embling Hospital, Prison Mental Health Services, and Community Forensic Mental Health Services.
They also have additional legislative requirements for research, education, and training in forensic mental health.
